A Smarter phone from Nokia – The Nokia N8
The Nokia N8 is sensational in every way, offering innovative features, combined with an unquestionably stylish outer casing. It had been announced, due for release in September 2010. N8 will be powered by an ARM 11 680 MHz CPU and a dedicated 3D graphics accelerator to ensure better graphics quality compared to previous Nokia Symbian phones.
The device comes with a 3.5″ AMOLED touchscreen display at 360 x 640 pixels resolution and able to show up to 16.7 million colors, which guarantee vibrant and sharp images. The display also supports multitouch input for better control and functionality. Just like in previous Nokia touchscreen smartphones, Nokia N8 is equipped with scratch resistant display, proximity sensor, and accelerometer.
The device comes with 16GB of internal storage and can be expanded with a 32GB microSD card. For Internet connection in rural areas, it offers GPRS/EDGE and also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and micro-USB. It supports the latest Cat 9 HSDPA technology with 10.2 Mbps. N8’s Carl Zeiss camera operates at 4000×3000 pixels or comparable to 12 Megapixels, with auto focus, Xenon flash, face and smile detection as well as geo-tagging. The device also incorporates handy features such as stereo FM radio and FM transmitter.
Compared to other smartphones, like iPhone 3GS and Nexus One, Nokia N8 delivers the best hardware specifications possible for a mobile phone. However, Symbian OS is often considered as a mediocre platform compared to the Apple’s iPhone OS. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the next incarnation of Symbian OS, the Symbian^3 can measure up with Android 2.2 (FroYo) and iPhone OS 4.0.
