Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3) has completely revolutionized the way people play video games. PlayStation has always been a huge hit, from the very first PlayStation 1 to the PS2 and now the cutting edge PS3. The PS3 can virtually do anything; it has the best graphics of any gaming system out there, allows you to watch DVDs and can also connect to the Internet, what more can you ask for? Well apparently, people have been asking for more because Sony has unveiled their new PS3 Slim, which is a significantly smaller version of the regular PS3.

The PS3 Slim is almost virtually the same as the regular PS3 with a few exceptions. The biggest exception would have to be the fact that the PS3 Slim about 33 percent smaller than the regular PS3 and is around 36 percent lighter. This makes the PS3 slim a much better option for those people out there who are looking for the power of the traditional PS3, minus the bulkiness associated with it. The PS3 Slim also comes standard with a 120 Gigabyte hard drive. Sony had to completely redesign the interior of the PS3 Slim to be able to make it that much smaller but still retains the sheer power.

Everything inside the PS3 Slim had to be redesigned; every wall, every component, everything. The PS3 Slim runs on a 45nm processor which is slightly smaller than the regular PS3’s 60 nm processor making the PS3 Slim run at about the same speed as the PS3, while at the same time making it more energy efficient and smaller. Sony says that the energy consumption of the PS3 Slim has been reduced to about two-thirds that of the regular PS3, which also helps to reduce the noise generated by the fan which is important for optimal game play.

The PS3 Slim comes with a 120 GB hard drive, which like the 80 GB and the 160 GB models, comes with two USB ports and also comes with built in Wi-Fi. The entire design of the PS3 Slim had changed from the traditional look of the regular PS3, for example, the hard drive of the PS3 Slim is located in the front of the system rather than on the side like PS3. PS3 does however, allow you to change the operating system of the gaming system; the PS3 Slim has removed this feature from the system which may upset some gamers. The regular PS3 was also able to be set up vertically or horizontally, the PS3 Slim can only be placed horizontally unless a special stand made by Sony is bought, in which case you can set the system up vertically.

The PS3 Slim is available much cheaper than the regular PS3, costing only $299 for the 120 GB model. So if you are in the market for a new gaming system, the PS3 Slim should seriously be considered because it is rivals over the regular PS3 and any other gaming system for that matter. You get all the sheer, jaw-dropping power associated with the PS3 except you get it in a smaller package, what could be better than that?
