Tips on Selecting A Web Hosting Provider

Building a website involves a number of processes that are to be followed.  Having a good website can determine the stability and profitability of a business with the help of a good web host.  There are many webhosting companies operating today and it’s hard to tell which one has the best package and who offers an excellent service.  These providers don’t offer similar packages and it’s really up to website owners to know how they would be able to get sight of their target web host.  Here are the steps in choosing a good web host that can provide you with the services that you need:

Search and Compare

Compare as many web hosting providers as you can.  You can search though Google, forums and blogs.  Know what’s in store for you in each webhost.  Once you have a number of webhosts in hand, try to call them and see how well they respond to calls.  Join forums and interact with website owners that are availing of a webhost service.

Compare the rates and features of the webhosts.  Most providers that offer cheaper plans usually don’t have attractive features and their services are limited.  Trim down your choices and select those that you think are reliable.

Identify your needs

Make a list of all your website requirements, such as the disk space and bandwidth.  In case you’re just starting up your online business and new in creating a website, gathering the information below might help you figure out what you need:

-         Number of web pages you plan to have

-         HTML vs. website builder -  Which would you prefer?

-         Contents of your website – images, videos or a combination of both ?

Sourcing of opinions

Try to read reviews about all the webhosts that you’re choosing from and carefully weigh the pros and cons of each of these providers.  Reviews don’t always state the truth as some may only be press releases.   Use your instinct in knowing which one is true and which is not.

Make necessary tests

After doing the previous steps and before taking it down to just one, desirable web host, you must do some tests.  The best test that you can probably do is to call their hotlines to check if they have people capable of answering all your questions and if they follow a strict time frame in addressing all problems.  If they do not have on-call technical staff, try to reach them by e-mail.  This step will be the deciding factor in choosing a web host.  This shall reflect the kind of service that they have and the kind of website you will be maintaining.

These steps are all necessary for you to come up with a good website.  Choosing a web host is some kind of exhausting, but it’s worth the effort.
